International Development Studies – Malaysia
As one of the emerging second wave tiger economies, Malaysia has gone through a very fast economic growth. This has provoked a transition in its migration approach: there are still some Malaysians who still go abroad for work, but inmigration has increased exponentially in the last years. Human trafficking is one of the main consequences the country is now facing. Traffickers lure victims with false promises of a better life. Religion, economy and human rights go hand in hand – every strategy of development as the reproduction and transformation processes which somehow impinge on inequality, impoverishment and human insecurity (Lund 2010, 20). I would like to dig into that (also dependency theory and post-colonial theories). As for the methodology, I would relate on secondary data.
