Finding out whether scopolamine produces a cognitive defect as demonstrated by significant changes in the performance of animals in the water maze.
If there is an effect, is this changed by the concurrent administration of the anticholinesterases neostigmine or physostigmine?
- Collecting the data for 6 rats per treatment over 4 days.

Water maze puts rats into a water tank with a platform and measure the length (cm) it takes each of the rats to reach the platform over a four-day period.
4 Groups:
GROUP 1-
Vehicle 1 (CONTROL)- 6 Rats not treated with cholinesterase’s – Each rat was put into a water tank and path lengths was measured over 4 days..
GROUP 2-
Scopolamine treated- 6 rats treated with only scopolamine- put into a water tank and path lengths was measured over a 4-day period.
GROUP 3-Scopolamine and Neostigmine treated- 6 rats treated with both scopolamine and neostigmine, put into water tank, where path lengths to platform was measured over 4 days.
GROUP 4-Scopolamine and Physostigmine- 6 rats treated with both Scopolamine and Neostigmine, put into water tank and path length was measured over a 4-day period.
