1. Theme: Select a theme that interests you from the list of topics below.
StyleEarly to High Renaissance:
o Examining style provides a basis for understanding works of art and the cultures in which they were made. Style comprises a shared group of visual traits, themes, or ideas expressed through Elements of Art and Principles of Design.
o In your tour, discuss the styles by comparing and contrasting Early and High Renaissance art in Italy as reflective of the concerns of each period and Renaissance society as a whole. Consider the styles visual traits, themes, and ideas.

Iconography: Iconography refers to the study of the content and meaning of imagery and symbolism artwork. In your tour, discuss the iconography found in artworks using specific art examples from three cultures we are studying this week (Early Renaissance, High Renaissance, Mannerism, Northern Renaissance). Specifically choose artworks that contain a number of symbols/objects and explain their deeper meanings (e.g., dog = fidelity; triangle = trinity). Include a summary of how these symbols support the subject and function of the art.
Humanism: In the Renaissance there was a greater focus on human concerns, similar to the interest in Humanism we find in Ancient Greece. In your tour, discuss the ideas of humanism and its influence on works of art from three of the periods we are studying this week.
Patronage: Works of art often reflect the values and concerns of the person(s) who commissioned them. Often, we see wealthy individuals tastes and concerns reflected in the art. Sometimes, we see the desires and goals of an institution. In your tour, discuss how patrons specifically influenced subject and style of specific works of art.

2. Artwork: Choose five artworks that reflect your chosen theme, making sure each of the following periods is represented: Early Renaissance, High Renaissance, Mannerism, and Northern Renaissance.
List artworks with the following information: title; artists name (if available); date artwork was created; medium; culture/period; and a live link to the artwork
3. Sources: Begin by reading the online textbook and lectures for this week. In addition to the lecture and textbook, identify two additional sources that will assist you in researching your chosen artworks, the eras, and/or theme. If choosing Internet sites, only use museum sites, or sites ending in . edu, or .gov, or those recommended by your instructor. Do not use Wikipedia or other wiki sites.
Create a list of references in MLA format using the sources you chose as well as the lecture and the textbook.in MLA format using the sources you chose as well as the lecture and the textbook.

4. Introduction: Revise the introduction you provided in your first assignment, as necessary. Your introduction should be an engaging introduction to your Guided tour which explains to your audience the theme you will be exploring, why, and summarize the main characteristics of each period and its artwork.
5. Description and Analysis of Five Artworks: As you journey into the tour aspect of the presentation, meaningfully discuss five works of art (covering the three eras) reflecting your chosen theme. Include the art image and all following identifying information under the image in your presentation (if available): title, artist, date artwork was created, medium, and culture/period (approximately 150200 words per artwork).

Describe and analyze each artwork. Use at least 3 of what you perceive to be the most relevant elements of art and principles of design in each work of art. Take into consideration the artworks style and purpose based on the readings this week. Use the following handouts to help you discuss the artworks:
 Researching Art Handout
 Writing About Art Guide
 Visual Analysis Handout
Expand your visual analysis into the larger theme of your choice (chosen inW4 Assignment 1). Using the textbook, lecture reading, and any outside sources approved by your instructor in W4 Assignment 1, address how the subject and style of each artwork reflect the historical and cultural context of the period. Think about the culture in which the work was created. What does the artworks visual characteristics tell us about cultural beliefs and meaning? Relate this to your theme.

6. Conclusions : Reiterate your theme and include meaningful insights and conclusions. Tell your audience what you hope they take away from your presentation.
