In the A Doll’s House play, why does Nora leave at the end of the play?

A Doll’s House: In an essay about the play, discuss the following: Why does Nora leave at the end of the play?  Does Torvald understand why Nora is leaving him? Do you think she will return to Torvald later on?  Why or why not?  Is this play, finally, a comedy or a tragedy?

You must use at least one outside source for this assignment . Sources should be an academic or scholarly source, best found through an academic or local library, not the open Internet. You must quote, paraphrase, or summarize source material at least twice for each topic in your paper and all citations must be done in accordance with MLA standards. Do not use .com websites like SparkNotes.com and Schmoop.com; use our library, or any library, for secondary sources.  Wikipedia cannot be used as a source either although you can use it unofficially as a base for reference to other, scholarly works. Only one secondary source is required for this essay, but two, reliable, academic, scholarly secondary sources would provide even more credibility in your paper.  Remember that a secondary source is a scholarly book or article about the work or the author.  The work itself is a primary source.

You must include quotes from the text to help support your ideas, but quoted material cannot comprise more than 20% of your paper. The remaining 80% must be your own original thoughts.

A grading rubric has been posted for this assignment. Please review it and keep it available while you are writing and revising your paper. Your grade will also be determined by the word count, which is 800 – 1200 words.  Essays not meeting this requirement will not be accepted. Papers submitted past the due date will not be accepted.

Create your essay in Microsoft Word and be sure to run the spell-check and the grammar-check before submitting it. Margins must be one inch all around and type should be Times New Roman or similar, 12 point. Be sure to place your name and the title of your essay at the top of the page and then submit it in the Assignments area.
