A word limit of 2,500 words applies.

Please note that the word limit imposed on the coursework for this course forms an important part of the assessment concerned.  In assessing the mark to be awarded examiners will also take into account the extent to which the word limit has been exceeded (or not met) when judging how a student has complied with the requirements of the assessment.

Where the word limit has been exceeded by the student (other than minimally) examiners will take this into account when awarding a particular mark and will draw this to the attention of the student in the Coursework Assessment form.

Students will be required to certify the number of words within a particular piece of coursework.  All words, other than the footnotes and bibliography, must be counted in this process, although expansion of text in footnotes is not acceptable.

In relation to essay guidelines, your attention is drawn to The Essential Guide to the Law Department 2016-17 and the Plagiarism Frameworks:  https://gap.lancs.ac.uk/ASQ/Policies/Pages/PlagiarismFramework.aspx

Please note that presentation forms part of the assessment of written work and students who fail to follow the established guidelines will be marked accordingly.

Students are required to submit one hard copy of their essay to the Law Office.  You must also submit your essay electronically via the MOODLE site.  A demonstration on to how to electronically submit your coursework will given at the start of one of the seminars.  Notice of the date for the demonstration will be announced in due course.
