cashew (Anacardium occidentale) in a tropical/subtropical cropping system

The purpose of the Lecture Crop Essay Assignment is to investigate in detail (1) a crop(s) and (2) associated cropping system within (3) a specific geographic location (e.g. tomatoes-processing, traditional management, Southwestern Ontario). All three of these items need to be specifically stated in the assignment. The cropping system must be at a commercial farm-level scale (i.e. not a home garden, neighborhood co-op, retail operation, etc). One exception allowed is a golf course. Since the size of the production system can affect (1) the nature of management activities, (2) the length of time required to complete each activity, and (3) possibly the target market, the size of the cropping system should be indicated in the essay. Provide a short rationale in the essay for the size of the cropping system.
The assignment will consist of two parts: (A) a flow chart showing the (1) phenological development of the crop(s), (2) associated management activities in the cropping system over time, and (3) the phenological development of one plant pest and one plant pathogen (see Appendix 1 for an example of a flow chart made by B. Micallef); and (B) a 4-page double-spaced essay, plus a title page, a literature cited section, and any figures/tables apart from the flow chart. Figures/tables apart from the flow chart are optional. All figures must have an original title and caption written by the student, and applicable references must be cited in the figure caption.
