You are to undertake a critical inquiry into an ethical dilemma or problem which is of concern to you. The dilemma or problem should to be related to some aspect affecting professional and commercial management in the context of international corporations. You should explore the macro and micro environments in which this problem or concern has arisen. You should explore a range of ethical theories and principles and how they can be applied to explain your understanding of the concern.

You should consider the dilemma of the values espoused and the actual values in use. You should demonstrate an appreciation of the professional social context with an ethical perspective. You should apply critical thinking skills to evaluate the decision making process, policies and managerial actions. As a manager, evaluate and apply appropriate criteria in identifying the extent to which these ethical issues are being managed in the setting. You should propose ways in which the dilemma could be managed and resolved giving supporting evidence and justification and apply ethical principles in this context.

The project should take the form of three stage plan leading to an essay of 3,000 words and an informal presentation of your ongoing essays research. The planned stages are as follows:

Essay

• Identify an ethical dilemma or concern that you have related to international management. Complete a ‘Dilemma Planner’ (refer Appendix 1 below) by the end of Week 17. The subject matter and research approach needs to be agreed with the module convenor so email the form to Guy Bohane by Friday 27th January.You will receive written feedback on your chosen topic by email by the end of week 18.
• Proceed with initial research investigating the dilemma or concern consulting a range of secondary sources.
• There will be an essay workshop in the lecture/seminar in Week 22. You should bring along your drafts to discuss and review in a tutorial.

Informal presentation of essay topic with formative feedback
• In weeks 20 & 21 you will be timetabled to present their ongoing research for their essays. Verbal feedback will be given after the presentations with written feedback being provided in weeks 21 & 22.

Presentations should include the following:
• Identifying the dilemma that you are investigating including the context
• Critically assess who is involved and why (stakeholders)
• Justify the range of ethical theories that you are using in analysing the dilemma
• Appraise some initial proposals for the management and resolution of the dilemma
• Identify a broad range of sources that you are using to support your essay

How will we support you with your assessment?
We will offer you support throughout your planning and writing of your report as listed above. During the seminars time will be made available for you to ask questions about your ongoing research and production of your report. We will assist you in exploring the ethical issues in a critical way appropriate for Masters level study.
• There will be an a full assessment briefing in first week of study Week 16
• Frequently asked questions FAQs (and their answers) will be posted on the module’s Moodle site
• There will be an opportunity to review and reflect upon work from previous cohorts in week 21.
How will your work be assessed?
Your work will be assessed by a subject expert who will use the marking grid provided in this assessment brief. When you access your marked work it is important that you reflect on the feedback so that you can use it to improve future assignments.
