HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IS OF STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE AND HR MANAGERS THEREFORE DESERVE A PLACE IN THE C‐SUITE

A significant body of research exists which suggests that how people are managed in an organisation, in other words human resource management practices, are critical to organisational success. Yet, despite this evidence, HR has struggled to cement its place as a true strategic partner in organisations. The front cover of a recent edition of Harvard Business Review ran the headline “It’s time to blow up HR and build something new.” The lead article was titled “Why we love to hate HR….and what HR can do about it”. Using the sources in the list below discuss whether you believe HR deserves a place ‘at the strategy table’. In doing so you might like to consider the following questions: Is HRM strategic? Is HR strategy actually critical to organisational success? Is there a link between people (and people management) and performance?
