Social Context of Policing

While it is undoubtedly an important police power, when it is misused stop and search
can be counter-productive … [and] hugely damaging to the relationship between the
police and the public (May, 2014). Outline the contentious history of the use of stop
and search powers in England and Wales and consider how recent measures to address
this may improve public confidence in its effectiveness.
